Alter Bridge

I guess people go through phases in their lives. I have been through phases myself...and in terms of musical preference, i guess i am in a different phase now. Recently i started listening to Alter Bridge again, after almost a year of having the album. I remember not feeling entirely thrilled by them when i first heard their songs coz it din really blow me away. But it's a different story now.

But now I have begun to immerse myself into their world of rock. They claim to be influenced by the seventies rock...the origin of rock...which emphasized a lot on musicanship and melody, unlike now with all those MTV thrash. Well, for those who don't know, Alter Bridge is basically Creed bandmembers but a new front man named Myles Kennedy. I kinda begin to like the power of Myles Kennedy's voice(5.5 octave) over Scott Stap(ex-Creed singer). That guy can really touch the high keys, like my friend said,"he has an 'old-school voice'", that typical rocker voice. No sissy-fied boy band, justintimberlake rubbish.

Well, I also begun to appreciate the technicalities of the music...whether it is hard pumping guitar/double bass rifts or the reverb-based clean guitar / 12 string accoustic guitar songs. The dynamics of the songs really caught my attention now.
Myles Kennedy once said that Scott Phillips(drummer) and Mark Tremonti(guitar supremo) gel so well, that it's like there's an invisible MIDI cable connecting them. That's a real compliment i feel. I would wanna to establish that kind of tightness between me and Vijay. Where the guitars are just pumping along on the drums...to reach that level of musical understanding.

Lyrics wise, I have also been impressed...not those typical ,"She was a girl, he was a boy/can I make it more obvious" lyrics...
Good songs, good arrangements. The main song writer i guess is Mark Tremonti with Myles Kennedy co-writting 5 songs. A lot of themes in their songs are quite personal, and therefore appealing to me...I dunno man, i just kinda immersed myself in a way. Well, you can find more of them in their website: http://www.alterbridge.com

Brian Marshall(bass),Scott Phillips(drums),Mark Tremonti(guitar),Myles Kennedy(guitar&vocals)
But I got to say that this isn't a punk band or R&B stuff, so probably not everyone's cup of tea.

If Deric wants to be like Chris Martin of Cold Play. I wanna play and write stuff like Mark Tremonti..this has entirely nothing to do with his association to the PRS that he endorses. I admire him based on his style of music and playing. He may not be Steve Vai or Satriani, but hey, they play totally different music. A lot of ppl diss Mark Tremonti coz they judge him too much on his playing ability...like duh,, everyone's different. Probably 90% of the guys who critisize aren't even close to doin the stuff Mark's doin. So basically they should apply the same rule that I use on myself...just shut up and play ur guitar to prove your point if you are better.
I really was amazed when I downloaded a live clip of them playing "Find the Real" on Jay Leno...wow.. I mean, one guitarist can provide the entire melodic structure of the song, plus all the extra rifts that he played. I mean, they actually played exactly like in the album recording, vocals and all...(unlike ppl like Ashley Simpson and Avril Lavigne who sound bad playing live)..And the guitar solo isn't some studio stunt where you can overdub and pull some strings. The guy can really play without hesitation...literally at the tip of his fingers...don't believe? go download then...

Well, I just wanted to share some stuff about my current musical influence. Previously i was listenin to quite a lot of mainstream punk bands like Yellowcard, Good Charlotte,Green Day and even Simple Plan. But now, I am growing out into other stuff, like currently Alter Bridge. Soon, I will check out Foo Fighters since I heard the craze about their latest album.

PG 165 has been working on some new material, so stick around for updates.

time to hit the sack....zzzzzzzzz
