While some of my friends may have a rough idea or something of what i was doing...guess most of you all were probably clueless...heh
Basically i did my training in a company called Powtech Marketting Sdn. Bhd. which is the official distributor of Targa products. Targa is a german company which has a global franchise.
Basically Targa makes Notebooks, MP3 players, LCD screens, VOIPs, Office Stations...etc...
*the not so impresive Malaysian website: http://www.powtech.com.my/
*the much more impresive Hong Kong branch: http://www.targahk.com/
Melaka branch is the headquarters...located in Taman Merdeka...super near to Andrew n Aaron's house.
To cut the long story short...i was training with 4 other of my course mates(3 Tele and 1 Com E...me being the sole Pure E)which i became friends with...we were working in the warranty dept...which basically does what it says...settle products that have defects...checking them, repairing them, sending them back to the factory, packaging them, assembling, etc... officially called RMA dept.... 9am-6pm Mon to Fridays...

This is how a Targa E 400 notebook would look like when undergoing repairs.

Well, i personally did not repair any LCD screens...in fact most of the time it is sent back to the factory for repairs. However minor repairs are done by us.

My lab's chief technician, Mr. Lee took a liking to me coz of my Pure Electronics background...isssh..so he assigned me to check and repair the faulty power supplies that came in. Sometimes there is input voltage but no output, sometimes there is no voltage at all...

This is the underside of a power supply...did my fair share of soldering and testing with the multimeters and stuff....most of the time it was some capacitor problem attached to the two heat sinks...otherwise it could be the fuse or other misc components.

After fixing the problem, I'd attach the power supply to a special electronic device that can show the various input and output voltages. (also use this to test if it is working before repairing). Once i did a poor soldering work and i caused the whole lab to have a power failure...man...i ruled the day...heh
TARGA E 400
we did a lot of repairs to this particular model. For this pictorial, i disassembled a customers notebook right up to it's bare...cover...heh...

This pictorial is greatly simplified...so it's just the important shots...

After that, i fixed the mainboard(motherboard), followed by the audio board(green in color, beside the hard disc casing at bottom right), hard disc casing(silver rectangular bottom right), power board(top right corner)

Fix the top cover(with it fix the microphone cable and serial port cable)

Fix the LCD panel by screwing the two joints. (plug in the audio and amber light cable - top right near the joint)...the two wires you see are for the WIFI which will go though that hole. Fix the touchpad and keyboard.

over turn the notebook..fix the hard disc, ram, CPU + fan, and WIFI card.

Fix the CD ROM...

Of course...screw all the needed parts la...that goes without saying...

Here it goes...

Yeah, we have one happy customer...heh...
Basically I was kind of like the odd one out...coz of my poor, poor command of mandrin...issh...everyone spoke Mandrin, Hokkien and Cantonese...so i kinda regret a bit coz i would have liked to socialized more with the staff but language was a freaking barrier at times. But my chief techinician was gracious to understand my mandrin at times...
There are three technicians working with us...(all in their 20's) one of them is younger than us.
After a while, i realised that they were quite lepak la...very lepak...like when there wasn't anything to repair, they'd plug in a movie and watch, oogle over handphones or they'd watch some Taiwan game show...towards the end, play CS(which someone brought and istalled with the pretext of testing the notebooks)... I'd idle my time by chatting and surfing the net...and that's also the time to catch up on some sleep...(sleep discreetly and dun let the company director see)...and eat

The Snake's Nest- a small section of the lab shielded from the door...where we will sleep...heh...well, a lil rest increases our performances..
One of the highlights of my training was to experience for the first time the job of a sales person when we went to participate in last December's PIKOM PC fair at KLCC. Learned the need to be able to smile n be friendly as well as to be able to push a product convincingly...and to talk...me being a non talkative person...was a learning experience...
standing 9-10 hours till ur legs feel like it's gonna disassemble...sleeping in the cheap motel was also an experience...but really fun...
Had a company BBQ...
Oh yea...pay was bad....let's not talk bout it. but the food in Taman Merdeka is super cheap...like the economy rice in one of the shops always averaged about rm2.70...with three dishes...yummy...
And we did hard labour work like carrying monitors...CRTs and LCDs...here and there...
Oh yea,
I enjoyed my time here in a sense that it was rather stress free..well for me la since i did not have any super near impossible projects like the Tele students had(which they couldn't/refused to do in the end)... a bit sad that had to say goodbye and all...

The RMA staff and some of the other staff...nice people...gonna miss them...
Oh well...FYP here I come...bleh...
