Loving it...

There's been a lot of hoo haa about politics and racialism which is being highlighted by bloggers in the light of our 50th Anniversary of our country's Independance. Yes, I agree that discrimination exist in so many levels that in a way, it's embeded in the fabric of our society. Certain people enjoy benefits, others have to slog it out. It's bloody unfair...

However I'd like to believe that there's genuine kindness and goodness in people in spite of our government's weakness. After all that we've read about Myanmar and how difficult life is for them, I want to say that I love Malaysia for the peace and harmony I enjoy.

When's the last time you slowed down on the cycnicism to enjoy a slow walk as children fly their kites in the park. This reminds me of my childhood when I use to go kite flying in the playground. Me and my friends used to cycle our bikes to the beach and fish like crazy. We'd find all kinds of stuff to do like playing gasing, cards, catching, and hide and seek.

This padang is usually full of people playing football, but due to the puasa month, there's less people sweating it out. It always fascinated me how people can claim to be so upperclass but yet so racist. On this field, more than often during my jogs, i see Malays, Chineses, and Indians...normal joes all laughing and bantering and playing football together. I used to think to myself, my goodness..that Chinese dude can't play football for nuts...malunya...but he's still playing and running around laughing and enjoying themselves.

Our country is a beautiful country, yet I often hear people wanting to get out of Malaysia. I'm sure they have pretty valid reasons to do so. But I really hope that for the rest of us, we could stop and thank God for the freedom of our land. Although it's not total freedom in a sense, I'm still grateful for what we have.

Well, at least I think Melaka is a beautiful place. I decided to take a walk on a Friday night to capture the atmosphere. This is the popular Jonker Walk that happens every Friday till Sunday frm 6pm-12am.

The historic streets of Melaka come alive and people from all walks of life mingle around to enjoy the night. When you're here, don't forget to try the cendol and ask for extra Gula Melaka. :P

We stumbled upon this place on one of the nights, but did not go in. Looks pretty cosy :). When we went to check it out the following day, it was closed...

No, I'm not doing a tourism promo for Melaka. In fact what I initially wanted to blog is totally different. After seeing the pictures again, I decided to write about how beautiful my side of the country is. Amidst all the sceptism of people, I still want to believe that Malaysia is an awesome place.

Just two days ago, my telephone line was destroyed by lightning and two Malay chaps from TM (Telekom) came in a van to fix it for me. They were really helpful and friendly while troubleshooting and repairing the line. Their efforts showed me they were sincere in helping me get back my telephone connection and they even went the extra mile by connecting the external wiring direct to my phone which saved me internal wiring cost. Oh yea, it's no big deal because it's their job right? But I'd like to see the human part in it...they were nice, normal people whom I could have a conversation with, and I shook their hands and thanked them before I went back into my house.

Yup, my country is multiracial...but I still love it.
