There is still a little good in people...

So, if you had read Deric's blog, you would probably know about our late night heroics early yesterday morning...haha

PG 165 was done rehearsing and we called it a night...it began raining heavily, literally a storm... around 11pm something and only let up at 1am...by then there was only me, ZX and Deric lazing around YAC waiting for d storm to calm down...

As we were about to leave, ZX shouted to us:
Hey, a huge branch just fell across the main road...come and see...

Me: That's a tree, uprooted across the road..
Deric: Whoa..

So we stood at the door watching...a tree had broken from it's trunk and had covered half of the Bkt Beruang main road...and it was drizzling, a wet road and there was no street lights...total darkness....we stood there awhile watching the incident when suddenly a car came speeding by and managed to stop just in time...and cornered away from the fallen tree...

"WHOA"..

Then an old ford came speeding by and braked... and we heard a skid as it crashed into the trunk...the driver reversed his car, came out...checked his car for damage n drove off...

"WHOA...man"

A kancil came speeding down, braked a little too late and crashed into and under the trunk....breaking its windscreen and coming through the other end of the trunk... the guy switched on his emergency lights n drifted to the side of the road...

"OH CRAP..."

That was when we decided it wasn't an amusing thing anymore....ok..call 999...and get help.

Me: Ok, call 999..
Deric: my phone not working...
ZX: Eh, i have bad experience with policemen...they gave me bad experiences..serious
Me: Here's my phone..Deric, call..
Deric: Why me?
Me: Just call..hurry...

Deric: It's engaged...man wait...hello,...ini Melaka, Bkt Bruang...sini ada pokok jatuh atas rumah...eh, bukan, jatuh atas jalan...yea...saya Mr. Tan....sudah dua kereta langgar,...
The operator channeled him to the Bomba...and he repeated the S.O.S.

We rushed down to "Ground Zero"

ZX drove his car down to the main road by the tree and shone his headights and I got my torchlight from my car to start flagging down cars...and Deric checked the Kancil driver. who seemed ok enough to drive away..

Zhen Xin and Deric watchin d firemen doin their job... (used my camera phone...no flash..so u can imagine how dark it was...just check the other pics)

There were people frm the shop beside...2 malay guys who came down and along wif ZX and Deric, attempted to drag the tree slightly to the side...the malay dude got his hands bleeding by the sheer roughness of the trunk....a car stopped by the road and 2 malay ladies came out...and offered to place a triangle reflector on the road...we had all called 999...

fire engine...never sat in one before...

And there were many cars who were speeding down that dark descending road who would have crashed if we had just stood and did nothing...just imagine a small motorcyclist...it was a pitch black, wet road... fatal man...

bout 10 mins later, the Bomba from MITC came...and out came the men in orange/red...chainsaw in one hand...and they took apart the tree...

I insisted on checking it out...never saw firemen with chain saws before..

Bomba working silently...*maybe they were sleepy and grumpy...but cheers to the heroes in red and orange*

Like what Deric said...it proved to me that in times of distress especially when it involved the possibility of lost of life...total strangers will rally together to help when moved by compassion...two malay men, two malay ladies, us, all strangers....there is still some good in this world...well at least in Bukit Beruang...

Me: Ok lar, bang ...(shakes malay guy's hand)...kita pergi dulu la...nak pergi makan ni...

Malay dude: Ok..terima kasih ya...(smiles warmly)
